Concept of Open Interest in Futures Trading

In this context of financial law, the following is a definition of Open Interest: The total number of futures contracts long or short in a delivery month or market that has been entered into and not yet liquidated by an offsetting transaction or fulfilled by delivery. Also called open contracts or open commitments.
